Coins commemorating the 500th anniversary of the birth of Primož Trubar

This year, which marks the 500th anniversary of the birth of Primož Trubar, the Bank of Slovenia will issue a €2 commemorative coin bearing Trubar's image. In May 2008, one million of these coins was minted.

On the basis of the Occasional Coins Act, the Republic of Slovenia issues such currency to commemorate major political, historical, scientific, cultural, sport, humanitarian and other events which are of significance to Slovenia, or internationally.

A proposal by Miljenko and Maja Licul was selected in a public competition for the design of the coins.

The selected design is based on a sketch by the sculptor Mirsad Begić of Trubar's bust, and is presented as an alternative to the well-known 16th century engraving of Primož Trubar.
